Summer Term in Orange Class

In Orange class this term we will be having fun learning all about a variety of different subjects. Here are just a few of things we’re going to learning about:

Science - In this unit children learn about the shapes and relative sizes of the Earth, Sun and Moon. Using models they learn how the three bodies move relative to each other and how these movements relate to night and day.

To support this topic Orange class will be going to the National Space Centre at Leicester on Wednesday 23rd June 2010 for their summer trip.
The National Space Centre has a wide variety of interactive hands on galleries for the children to explore during their visit.
As part of the visit they also have a Space Theatre Show included. In the 360 degree theatre the children will experience one of the amazing and interactive shows all about Space.
The children will also take part in an Earth; Moon and Sun workshop. This workshop is split into 3 main parts to discover the relationship between the objects we see in the sky. Each of the parts covers each of the objects through practical demonstration. The children will have the opportunity to construct their own moon wheel, showing each of the moon phases.

History – Our topic for this term is the Tudors and in Orange class we will be focusing primarily on William Shakespeare. We will be examining his life, games and sport from the Tudor times. We will learn about the plays that Shakespeare wrote – Miss Fulcher has already read us the child friendly versions of ‘The Tempest’ and ‘Hamlet’. We will learn about the clothes that people wore during the Tudor time period. We will investigate Food that would have been served for the rich and poor and even try out some of the recipes during our DT lessons. Throughout Art this term we will be making bowls for the poor to eat from and we’ll be investigating some other Tudor crafts. During our Music lessons we’ll even learn some Tudor songs. If you are very lucky we might sing to you during a WOW assembly!

Learning Objectives

These are the projects that each class will be studying over the Summer term
Summer Term in Yellow Class

In yellow class we are studying growing this term.  We have been lucky enough to be given our own eggs to hatch.  They will be arriving in mid May and we will be hatching them and then watching the chicks grow in their first few days of life.  We will then be visiting our chicks at Rand farm in the last half term.
We will also be growing our own plants and vegetables in our outside area.  We will be growing seasonal vegetables that we can hopefully harvest before the end of term.

After the half term break we will be making a study the seaside.  We will be looking at the past and present day seaside holiday and thinking about the things we do when we go on holiday.

We are looking forward to the pre-school children visiting on a Thursday afternoon, all of the children enjoy these sessions as it enables us to work together and make lots of new friends.
