Corby Glen Community Primary School
Through our art and design education, we aim to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As children progress, we challenge them to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. We guide them in knowing how art and design both reflects and shapes our history, and contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.
We want our children to:
produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

In Key Stage 2 children are taught:
to improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials for example, pencil, charcoal, paint, clay

What should my child be achieving in art and design?
In your child's first year of school, they will be working towards the following Early Learning Goal:
Exploring and using media and materials: Children sing songs, make music and dance, and experiment with ways of changing them. They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.
Being imaginative: Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.
In Years 1- 6 children will be working towards the following expectations by the end of each year group:
